In mobile app

If you are not yet our client, you can join us without coming to a bank! Now, all you need is our app: take a “selfie”, and we will deliver your card to you within Latvian borders for free.

What to know before applying

If you are not yet our customer, you can join us without visiting the bank! All you need is the app: take a selfie, and we will send your card by mail for free.
To become a client using the Citadele app, you must:

  • be an adult, at least 18 years old;
  • have a citizen or non-citizen passport or ID card issued by the Republic of Latvia;
  • have a phone number registered in Latvia;
  • have a permanent address in Latvia;
  • be tax resident in one country only – Latvia.

Filling in an application in the mobile app takes an average of 7 minutes.

Bear in mind that when you become a customer of the bank via the Citadele app, your monthly upper incoming transfer limit will be 10 000 EUR per month. This can be changed at any of our branches.
If one of the above points does not apply, we welcome you to any of our branches, bringing along a form of ID. If you are under 18 but over 7, you can apply by bringing one of your parents or guardian with you.

 If you are unable to attend in person, we offer the option of opening an account on a power of attorney basis. Please note that this is a paid service. You can find detailed information on prices here.

I submitted my application, what now?

After submitting your application, the bank will contact you if necessary. If your application is successful and we do not require any additional information, you will soon receive 3 text messages:

  • an SMS welcoming you as a Citadele client
  • your online banking username 
  • your online banking password 

Ensure that you save your online banking log in details, as you will need these to access full online banking or to renew your MobileSCAN license on a new mobile device.

We will send you an email containing the important information, and we will also send you a notification via the online bank. We will ask you to respond to this notification with a phone password question and answer. Make sure that you do this, because if you have any issues and contact us by phone, we will have to verify your identity. To do this, we will ask you the security question, and you will have to answer. Without this question and answer, we will have no way of ensuring that you are who you say you are over the phone.

You will receive your card and PIN code by post to the address you entered within one week.

Remember that, when you become a Citadele client via the Citadele app, your initial upper monthly incoming transfer limit will be 10 000 EUR. You can change this by visiting a bank branch.

If after filling in the application you received that it is necessary to take another photo (SMS text: Jamegina velreiz! Ludzu, uznem jaunas fotogrāfijas, jo ieprieksejas dokumentu nevar izmantot) then for some reason the submitted photos have not been accepted (blurred, insufficient lighting, etc.). In this case, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the Citadele app and fill the application once more.

Applying through the mobile app

To begin the application, select “Become a Client” and read the basic information.

Ensure that you have entered the correct phone number and email address, because later in the application process you will receive important information via SMS and email, and this is how we will also contact you if necessary.

In the address field, write the address to which you would like your card sent. Bear in mind, if you live outside of a city, you should select Region, where you will be able to enter your region and parish.

In step 4, you will be able to select which card is most suitable. Swipe to view all descriptions. 

Confirm your phone number and create a PIN code.

Bear in mind that you will need this PIN after you have become a client to log in and confirm payments.

Answer the next few questions about yourself.

Enter your average monthly incoming payments. Bear in mind that when you become a Citadele client via the mobile app, your account will initially have an upper monthly income cap of 10 000 EUR. This can be changed by visiting a branch.

When taking your photos, bear in mind the following crucial aspects:

  • Use the original of your ID card or passport;
  • The whole ID card or passport must fit into the photo;
  • You should photograph the full spread of your passport, with the top and bottom page fully visible.

When will I have access to banking services?

Account and mobile app are available immediately after successful singing up. Card will be delivered within a week. When you receive an card, you must activate it in the mobile app or online banking.

Is delivery available abroad?

Currently this service is available only in Latvia.

Is my data secure?

We guarantee the nondisclosure and security of your personal data by taking the appropriate technical and organisational measures. Only authorized bank employees and employees of our cooperation partners have the right to access your personal data. The security of the network and private devices, data back-up, and other measures are ensured to protect your data from unauthorized access, use and disclosure, when your data is sent in an encrypted form. Why do I have to take a selfie?

It helps us ensure that it really is you.

How soon can I receive my card?

Within a week after completing the application. You will receive two shipments – card and a few days later the PIN code.

Documents to be submitted to start a business relationship

You can become a Citadele customer in the most convenient way for you – remotely or in person.

When applying in person, the following documents are required to start a business relationship:

Latvian resident under 18 years:

  • customer questionnaire;
  • valid identity document (passport/ID card) or birth certificate (if the child is under 15 years);
  • valid identity document (passport/ID card) of the parent or guardian;
  • in the case of a guardian, a document confirming the representation powers (power of attorney, court judgement, or orphan's court decision).

Latvian resident who has reached the age of 18:

  • customer questionnaire;
  • valid identity document (passport/ID card).

Foreign individual with ties to Latvia:

  • customer questionnaire;
  • passport/identity card valid for entering Latvia;
  • document confirming the connection with Latvia (study contract, labour contract, temporary or permanent residence permit issued in Latvia, visa, etc.).

 


! If necessary, the Bank may request additional documents (e.g., documents confirming the origin of funds and/or wealth, source documents of transactions, etc.) in accordance with the risk-based approach. 

Can the bank decline my request on becoming a client?

The bank is entitled to refuse the person's request to become a bank client in cases that are specified in the legal acts and internal bank documents, for example, the bank can decline the request from a person, whose earnings cannot be proven as legal, also if the person provides false information or wants to receive the bank services in one's name but in the interests of other persons.

Are there any additional conditions?

When becoming a client of the bank in the Citadele mobile app, take into account that the maximum amount of incoming payments you can receive per month will initially be 10 000 EUR for your account.

Is it safe?

Your data is secure when you sign up. The mobile application uses a secure connection (encrypted data transfer channel) with the bank and your data can’t reach unauthorized parties. For your safety the application checks whether your phone is secure (root check).

How much time does it take to sign up in the application?

On average it takes 7 minutes to complete the application in the mobile app.

What is a secure PIN?

To fully experience the mobile application and online bank, you will have to set a secure PIN. A PIN that consists of five consecutive or equal numbers is not a secure PIN. To create a PIN, enter the verification code sent in an SMS to the phone number you provided during the application process.

Why should I sign up for card in the mobile application?

It will save you time. You can sign up for your card whenever and wherever. Card will be sent by post, you don’t have to come to our branch office.

Which mobile phones have access to this service?

The service is available for devices running Android (version 9.0 and later) and iOS (starting from iOS 16) operating systems. The service is not available if the application detects that the phone is not secure.

What are the service costs?
