Where to Submit a Guaranteed Compensation Application?

  • At a credit institution registered in Latvia, where the depositor has an account.
  • At a branch of a credit institution registered in an EU member state and operating in Latvia, where the depositor has an account.
  • If the depositor of the insolvent or liquidated credit institution has an account at the mentioned institution and if it can ensure credit transfers to the depositor and meet the requirements set by the Bank of Latvia's Regulation No. 329, issued on October 21, 2024, "Regulations on Guaranteed Compensation Payment Applications at Credit Institutions Registered in Latvia and Branches of Credit Institutions Registered in EU Member States in Latvia," then:
    • At a payment institution licensed in Latvia;
    • At an electronic money institution licensed in Latvia;
    • At a branch of a payment institution licensed in an EU member state;
    • At a branch of an electronic money institution licensed in an EU member state and operating in Latvia.
  • At the Bank of Latvia:
    • In person – at customer service desks at Bezdelīgu iela 3, Riga;
    • Electronically – by sending an application signed with a secure electronic signature to the Bank of Latvia's email address info@bank.lv or to the official e-address on the portal Latvia.gov.lv;
    • By mail – by sending a notarized and appropriately apostilled or certified application by mail to the Bank of Latvia's address – K. Valdemāra iela 2A, Riga, LV-1050.

Special Conditions

  • For guaranteed compensation applications submitted by an individual representing the depositor of an insolvent or liquidated credit institution, additional documents confirming the right of representation must be attached.
  • A legal representative of a minor must submit the guaranteed compensation application exclusively at the Bank of Latvia.
  • If the guaranteed compensation application is submitted by an heir, it must be submitted exclusively at the Bank of Latvia, along with the following documents:
    • Proof of the individual's inheritance rights (a copy of the inheritance certificate or a final court ruling);
    • A copy of the individual's identification document.
